Imagine being a clown.
Imagine not being able to escape the topsy-turvy world of clowning, your whole life hidden behind a thick grease paint mask! There must come a time when the performer becomes to old to sparkle on stage, hanging up your red nose for your pipe and slippers. Charlie is this clown, who must now face the facts that age has got the better of him.
Living in his strange world of mess and ritual is Charlie's life long sidekick, Lenny, who realises his friend's situation and how he can benefit! Added to this is the fresh-faced clown apprentice Tom, always aiming to please, and always getting it wrong!
Through a barrage of sad attempts to get rid of the old clown through humiliation, prat falls and even heavy artillery, all three realise that clowning can sometimes contain more than just a working relationship! Charlie in Lights is a one-act play, which follows the strange relationship between three Clowns and the problems and dissuasions they must face. Quick, funny and very moving, this play will make you gaze and wonder at a distant quirky world, hopefully bringing out the child in all of us!
